Fire breaks out at plastics plant in Elwood...
ELWOOD, Ind. -- Firefighters needed several hours to bring under control a fire at an Elwood auto parts plants that is scheduled to close by the end of the month.
Madison County Emergency Management Agency director Todd Harmeson says no injuries were reported from the fire Monday morning at the Plastec Corp. plant along Indiana 37. Harmeson said the fire was contained to a paint room in the plant and that workers were safely evacuated.
In May, Plastec announced that it would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and close by the end of July. The plant makes molded plastic auto components.
Harmeson says crews determined that the large plume of smoke from the fire was not hazardous. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
